MINISTERS MEMIĆ AND MALI AGREE: ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ADVERTISING UNREGISTERED ACCOMMODATION

Minister of Tourism and Youth Husein Memić and the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Siniša Mali agreed at today's meeting that it is necessary to urgently regulate the advertising of unregistered accommodation on online platforms such as Booking.com and Airbnb.com.

They emphasized that there will be no tolerance for hosts who advertise and provide accommodation services as unregistered entities (entities not registered in the Central Information System eTourist), i.e., hosts who have not obtained a categorization decision, which they are obliged to do according to the Hospitality Law.

Ministers Memić and Mali highlighted that the Government of Serbia will request an urgent meeting, primarily with representatives of the company Booking, as the platform is the most prevalent in this regard, to ensure it operates in accordance with the current regulations of the Republic of Serbia.

They added that such alignment is necessary to protect service users, maintain the quality of offers, and create equal and fair conditions in the market, where all hosts will operate in accordance with the rules.

They also emphasized that the goal is not to restrict the operation of the platform, which plays a significant role in facilitating accommodation reservations in Serbia by a large number of tourists, but to ensure that the platform, as well as the hosts, operate in accordance with the current regulations of the Republic of Serbia.
